If you’re itching to grow your own food but you’re unsure how to start and perhaps don’t have a lot of garden space, the designers at Scout Regalia have devised a sleek kit of parts to get your planting project off the ground.

What distinguish these DIY garden bed kits are the steel brackets designed by Benjamin Luddy and Makoto Mizutani. The two Scout Regalia founders trained as architects, and you can see that influence in their meticulous (yet fun) approach to the brackets. The shape is derived from the most efficient use of the heavy-gauge steel material, to minimize waste, and the baked enamel finish adds a modern pop of color.

Each kit comes with four corner brackets and two middle brackets, plus stainless-steel screws. You supply the lumber – which is the beauty of the approach. You can select just the right length 2x6 lumber to create a custom fit for your yard, patio or balcony. It’s a perfect solution for small-space gardeners or apartment dwellers. You can also choose your own preferred building material: conventional framing lumber, reclaimed wood or composite materials.

Both the SR Raised Garden Kit and the SR Patio Garden Kit come with an instruction guide to walk you through construction. (If you’re not up for building your own, there’s a preassembled option.) The patio version also includes drainage textile made with 40% post industrial recycled content. Once you’ve added your soil and plants, you can enjoy the aesthetics of the raised garden boxes as you prepare for the most rewarding part: Reaping all that you’ve sown.
