Story

Design School Comes Home

Buy Working Class Studio products here. The Savannah College of Art and Design is no ordinary ivy tower institution. The roots of its Working Class Studio are entrenched in the real world, and the lucky students, alumni and faculty who get to participate gain a real understanding of what it takes to bring their designs to life, from concept and development through to production.

Tucker Waugh, Working Class StudioAnd for us? We get to enjoy the fruits of these talented artists, like Nicole Runde and Tucker Waugh. Nicole’s modern planter sets (which double as bookends or office organizers) are made entirely from cork, which is naturally watertight and resistant to mold and mildew. Tucker’s minimalist acrylic table lamps create a great play on positive and negative space.

Buy Working Class Studio products here. We’re also featuring photo frames from two different design teams. Ashley Olson and Cindy Barlow teamed to create Puffy Frames, which add a soft, colorful dimension to traditional framing profiles. A top-mounted grosgrain ribbon makes it easy to hang Puffy Frames.

For metal surfaces, Framework magnetic frames add instant personality to your refrigerator door, file cabinet or school locker. The designers -- Laura Davis, Sara Bumgardner, Sean Hackett, Ashley Olson and Alex Westray -- were inspired by antique frame contours and traditional textile patterns.

We’ve scouted SCAD in the past for Grommets, and last year we featured Charles Heydinger’s clever stretchy clock. We’ve also had great luck recruiting SCAD students and alumni. Danielle (our intern), Claire (our recent intern) and Julia (product launch manager) all attended SCAD. We can’t wait to see who/what the Working Class Studio brings us next!
