Donna Dockins, Oregon Dukkah When Donna Dockins, a chef from Oregon, befriended a New Zealand couple visiting Portland, she had no idea that they would inspire a new business. The couple mailed her a box of goodies from New Zealand after they returned home, but she didn’t know what to do with the package of dukkah. When she finally tried the Egyptian nut-spice combination, she was hooked. She saw hazelnuts in the list of ingredients, and a light bulb went off in her head. Oregon produces the world’s best hazelnuts, so she could make dukkah locally.

By the time Donna did her homework, created some stellar combinations of dukkah, and figured out how to source recycled board boxes as well as biodegradable bags, it was the dead of winter. Yet she still managed to sell 99 packages of dukkah within four hours at her first appearance at the local farmers market! She hasn’t looked back, and today she offers us five delightful flavors of Oregon Dukkah.
