Once upon a time, two publishing veterans set out to save the short story.

Maribeth Batcha and Hannah Tinti are the co-founders of One Story, a nonprofit literary magazine that publishes one short story in each issue. Their goal is to deliver short stories in a friendly format that’s artful, entertaining and easy to fit into your life. You might not have time to read a novel, but a short story is the perfect indulgence before bedtime or when you’re riding the train to work or waiting in the lobby of a doctor’s office. It’s short enough to be read in a single sitting, yet rich enough to make you forget your surroundings and draw you into the writer’s world.

One Story subscribers receive a new issue every three weeks, either by mail or electronically. There are no ads, just great fiction. If you love reading and discovering new talent, or if you want to treat your favorite bookworm to something special, One Story is just the right fit.
