One challenge parents face is how to monitor and track daily reading homework, often for more than one child. The mark-my-time digital timer and book lights let each child set a reading timer and/or record reading minutes at the touch of a button. This also functions as a bookmark, so the timer/book light is always with the book. On the booklight version, when the timer goes off and the time is up, the booklight shuts off automatically.

Light the Way
Anything that helps kids enjoy reading is a good thing in our book. What’s even better is a tool that makes reading fun AND puts an end to the squabbles over how many reading minutes were completed. As any parent in homework-enforcing mode knows, it’s best when kids can do their own timekeeping.
Today’s Grommet is the ideal reading companion for kids. It’s a bookmark with a digital timer that tracks how long a child reads. The mark-my-time Digital Bookmark works as a countdown timer, with an alarm that lets the reader know when the required reading time is finished. Or, it works as a cumulative timer, which keeps track of up to 100 hours of reading time over multiple sessions. There’s also a version that comes with a built-in reading light, which makes it even more appealing for kids to curl up with a good book. The mark-my-time Digital Booklight has an LED light that sits on an adjustable arm with a clip for attaching it to a book.
The creator of these mark-my-time gadgets is Maureen Farinella, who wanted a better way to track required reading time for her daughter, Megan. Maureen teamed with her husband Joe, and together they devised an easy, reliable way for kids to monitor and store their reading times. When it’s not being used for reading, a mark-my-time bookmark also works great for monitoring music practices, timed math exercises, study sessions and more.— Ann
