Story

Jam It!

Want to get the gang moving at your next backyard get-together? Break out the Kan Jam.

Charlie Scianzra and Paul Swisher, Kan JamAfter getting inspired by a friendly round of garbage-can Frisbee, friends Charlie Sciandra and Paul Swisher set out to refine the game by creating rules, a scoring system and using a less grimy set of cans. Charlie and co-founder Mitch Rubin introduced Kan Jam to a growing fan base that’s active in all 50 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces, and even as far away as the U.K, Australia and New Zealand.

The rules are pretty simple. Players divide into teams of two -- a thrower and a deflector – and the teams take turns throwing the disc. The thrower flips the disc to the opposite goal, where the deflector tries to jam it into the can. If the flying disc hits the side of the can with no help from the deflector, that’s a deuce (2 points). If the deflector knocks the disc so it hits the side of the goal, that’s a dinger (1 point). If the deflector slam-dunks the flying disc and it goes into the goal, that’s a bucket (3 points).

The first team to reach 21 points wins. Or, a team can win instantly if one of the players manages to throw the flying disc through the narrow slot carved out of the front of the can, without any help from a teammate.

Kan Jam (which is manufactured in New York) is easy to learn and fun for all ages. Most of us don’t have the height to dunk a basketball. But jamming a Kan Jam disc? Yes, you can!
