What is Daily Grommet?

Daily Grommet is an online marketplace and the birthplace of Citizen Commerce. It's about time we all "take back the shelves," at retail and replace outdated ways of doing business. By telling the true stories behind products and companies, we are helping people to support products with deeper meaning and true benefits.

What is a Grommet?

It’s a product that amplifies something good in the world, whether it's technical innovation, green or social enterprise, inventive design, a disruptive new business, the creation of jobs, the preservation of communities, domestic manufacturing, the support of craft, or a simply a good solution to a problem. It comes from a designer, inventor, artist, or manufacturer who is clearly passionate about what they create. Someone who loves to share their creations and talk to people about why they do what they do. It comes from a company that treats its customers well. Is Daily Grommet a business or a service?

Daily Grommet is a business. We make money by partnering with other businesses, the ones who create the products we feature every day. Those businesses don’t pay a fee to appear on the site, and we do not accept any advertising. We put our resources into spreading the word about products we believe in, and when someone purchases a product from the Daily Grommet site, we receive a portion of that sale. So in that way, if they do well, we all do well. Our partners appreciate the effort we make in our daily email, blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other outlets to let people know about their products.

As part of our partnership arrangement, we try to give enough information about each product to encourage people to buy from the Grommet site rather than elsewhere on the web. We also try to save you time because we carefully select the very best product selections from any given partner. If you have additional questions about any Daily Grommet product, you can post them on the product’s “Talk about this Grommet” section, or email us at CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com.

How do I know you have a good price on each Grommet?

Before we launch each story, we scour the web to be sure we are offering the best price out there. We sometimes miss some short-term promotions from deep discounters. But generally you can’t do better than at Daily Grommet.

Do you sell just one product a day?

We discover and sell just one Grommet a day on our homepage. That’s the point. We know you’re busy, and we don’t want to take up too much of your time. But after 24 hours (longer on the weekend), we move the product to our online catalog. You can still learn about and buy Grommets there.

What is the schedule for new items?

Well, we don’t really announce that. It would take the fun out of it. Check back with us every day at 12 noon ET, or sign up for our email alerts, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter and we’ll keep you up to date.

I missed yesterday’s item; can I still get one?

Sure. Just search our catalog, and you’ll see all the products we’ve featured before. Once you view a Grommet you want, click on the orange "Add to Cart" button and you’ll be on the road to making that purchase. And, if you want to just catch up on the last 30 days of Grommets, take a look at the bottom of our page, where we highlight the most recent Grommets.

Can I get an email announcement of the Grommet?

Sure. Just click here to sign up or look at the top of any page on our site, and you’ll see a place to enter your email address. We’ll hook you right up with a daily email to give you a first crack at the Grommet of the day and special offer (if available).

Does Daily Grommet have a Facebook page?

How do you select your Grommets?

At the heart of it, we’re a group of people who want to change the world by highlighting people and companies that are doing just that, via their innovations. We take a holistic approach to evaluating products and companies: we look for an excellent concept supported by equally exceptional design and engineering, we can tell the difference between true and false claims, and we celebrate real passion and sincerity.

We're independent—no one pays us to select a product. In fact, the best thing is, lots of people help us by sharing their own favorite discoveries. We get dozens of Grommet idea submissions each week. We're enabling a vibrant Citizen Commerce movement.

If you have an idea, please let us know here. And take a look at our Citizens' Gallery of idea submissions. You'll see your idea show up here. Encourage your friends to comment on your idea and even "like" it. This additional intel really helps us understand what ideas resonate with people. We also really like to hear from other people who have used the product and can share their experience.

What makes you so smart that you think you can pick these Grommets?

It's not about being smart, it’s about being shamelessly curious and adventurous. We are curious about why a product exists, who created it, and who loves it. We know that getting these stories communicated to the outside world is one of the hardest things for product creators to do. Bricks and mortar shops just can’t do that. E-commerce sites want to move massive volume of products, not tell the stories behind them.

We don’t have to worry about running a store, or pushing lots and lots of products at once. We can take the time to care about each Grommet…their stories are our favorite part. Beyond that, we’ve spent our whole lives creating products ourselves, so we’re pretty passionate about that process, and love to support the many, many people out there doing beautiful, creative and innovative things.

Is it safe to use my credit card online at Daily Grommet?

We work to protect the security of your information by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input. If transactions are processed on the website, transaction information is transmitted to and from the website in encrypted form using industry-standard SSL connections to help protect such information from interception. Using this encryption, we transmit an entire credit card number to the appropriate credit card company during order processing, but reveal only the last four digits of credit card numbers when confirming an order. We restrict authorized access to personal information to those persons who have a legitimate need to know that information to provide products or services to you and those persons you have authorized to have access to such information.

Daily Grommet follows generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once Daily Grommet receives it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while Daily Grommet strives to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Does my login from the previous site still work? Was my account information and credit card information carried over from the previous site?

We have transferred your name, user id, password, and shipping addresses, if applicable. For security reasons, we did not transfer your credit card information. Please log in to "My Account" at the top of our website, review and revise your information.

All of your information remains private and will never be sold or provided to any third party. Our Privacy Policy details the information we collect and how they are used.

Can I place my order by phone?

You’re always welcome to call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 to place your order. We will collect your order information and place the order on your behalf through our website. You will receive an order confirmation email. If we are helping other customers, you can leave a message and we’ll return your call as soon as we can.

Do you have a physical store?

Daily Grommet is an online store. We don't have any retail locations at this time.

How do you use my email address?

We do not rent, sell, lend or in any way provide third parties with your email address without your permission unless otherwise specified in our Privacy Policy. We may use your email address to contact you with any questions related to your order.

How can I buy a Grommet once it’s no longer on the Homepage?

All of our Grommets are organized in different categories. You can search for a Grommet by typing its name into the Search box at the top right of each page. If you’re not sure of the exact Grommet you’re looking for, click a category that’s of interest and start browsing – it’s a great way to shop.

Can I save Grommets I like to purchase later or create a Wish List?

Wish List is now called "Favorites" on our new website. You can save a Grommet you like to a Favorites list. First, log in to your Account. Then, find the Grommet you like and click the “Add to Favorites” button located on the right hand side, under the "Buy Now" button. You can see your Favorites under "My Favorites" in the "My Account" section of your Account Dashboard. You also have the option to share your list with friends and family.

Can I send a Grommet as a gift?

Grommets make excellent gifts, and we will gladly send one or many to the recipients you choose. When you place your order, you can designate who should get each Grommet and include a gift message for each recipient. Currently, we do not offer gift-wrap. You can also order virtual gift certificates.

Do you offer gift cards/certificates?

With our new site, you can purchase a gift card by clicking the "Virtual Gift Certificate" option found in some of the Grommet categories. Once you complete the order, the recipient will receive an email with your gift, message, and instructions on how to redeem their gift certificate. At this time, our gift certificates are digital only. You can request a physical card by calling us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or emailing CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com. To redeem a certificate, simply enter the Gift Certificate number in the Gift Code field during checkout.

Can I order in bulk?

We will be able to consider some bulk order discount for large orders. Please call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com and we will provide specific pricing and shipping information.

Do you ship internationally?

Grommets are shipped to all 50 States and many can also be shipped to Canada (unless otherwise stated).

Do you offer expedited shipping?

Most of our Grommet partners offer 2-Day and overnight shipping. If they do offer expedited shipping, you will be given the options and the associated charges at Checkout.

Are there any shipping restrictions?

Warranty issues and manufacturer restrictions might prevent us from shipping certain products to all geographical locations. In addition, products shipped via UPS or Federal Express must be sent to a street address, not a P.O. Box. Click the "Details" tab on any Grommet page to see any shipping restrictions.

What do you charge for shipping?

Daily Grommet is a marketplace, which means that most Grommets ship directly from the company that makes them. Because of this, each Grommet you order usually ships separately, incurring separate shipping costs.

The shipping rates themselves are based on a number of factors--where the Grommet is coming from, where it is going, how much it weighs, and how quickly you want to receive it. For most Grommets, you will be given different shipping options to select from to match your shipping needs. We negotiate with our Grommet Partners to keep the rates as low as possible and pass along any shipping discounts to you.

Can I ship to multiple addresses within the same order?

Yes. On the Shopping Cart page, select the "Ship to Multiple Addresses" option. You'll be able to choose the shipping address and shipping method for each Grommet selected.

*Note: You must use a credit card to ship to multiple addresses. PayPal does not support this feature.

How can I ship the same item to multiple people?

Simply enter the quantity of the Grommet before selecting the "Ship To Multiple Addresses" option. For example, if you want to send a certain Grommet to 4 people, set the quantity in your Shopping Cart to 4. When you click "Ship To Multiple Addresses," the item will appear in your cart four separate times and you'll choose the shipping address for each. If you want one person to receive two, simply choose that person's address twice.

*Note: You must use a credit card to ship to multiple addresses. PayPal does not support this feature.

How do I enter more shipping addresses?

If you've already established an account with DailyGrommet, you can log in to "My Account" and enter more addresses to your Address Book before you start placing items in your shopping cart. If you've already started shopping, you can also enter new addresses during Checkout.

Where will my order ship from?

In most cases, your order ships from the creator of the Grommet itself. Others will ship from Daily Grommet. The Shopping Cart lists which company each Grommet will be shipped from.

When will I receive my order?

Orders generally ship within 2-3 business days of receipt, i.e. Monday through Friday. If you ordered multiple Grommets, each Grommet will likely be shipped separately. Unless you paid for expedited shipping, your package will arrive within 9 to 12 days. Most of our Grommet Partners will send you a shipment confirmation email when the Grommet ships.

How can I check the status of my order?

You can check the order status by logging into your account and clicking "My Account." If you have questions about your order, please call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com. We will need the name of the person who placed the order and the Order number (if possible).

What if I have a question about a Grommet?

On each Grommet page, there’s a "Details" tab that offers additional information about the Grommet. Be sure to also check out the discussion board associated with each Grommet in the Talk About This Grommet section. Someone else might have already asked the same question and got the answer. You can always post your question there. If your question isn’t answered there, please call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com and we will do our best to answer your question.

How do I cancel an order?

Please call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com as soon as possible after you place your order if you want to cancel it. If you cancel after the order has shipped, you can return the Grommet within 30 of date of purchase for a refund.

How can I change my order?

Please call us at 1-877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com as soon as possible after placing your order if you want to change your order for any reason. We can’t guarantee we'll be able to change the order, but we'll do our best to catch the order before it ships.

Can I add to my order?

Since we do not keep your credit information, we cannot add to your order after it’s placed. To order additional quantities of a particular Grommet, you will need to place the order through our website. Click "Order History" under "My Account" and you will be given the option of re-ordering the Grommet.

What’s your return policy?

If you find you are not fully satisfied with a Grommet, we will accept returns within 30 days after you placed your order for a full refund. Restrictions may apply and will be outlined in the "Details" tab on the Grommet page. Please email:

We will pay the shipping cost if the return is a result of our error or if the Grommet is damaged or defective. Grommets should be returned with their original packaging.

When will the refund post to my account?

Once we receive and process your return, it can take up to 7 business days for the refund to post to your account.

Can I exchange my Grommet?

Yes. The first step is to call us at 1- 877-862-0222, extension 1 or email CustomerSupport@dailygrommet.com with the following information:

We will then confirm with our Grommet partner that the Grommet you want is in stock. We will provide you with information on returning the original Grommet you ordered (with its original packaging). You will be responsible for any additional shipping charges.

Do my bookmarks from the old site still exist?

Yes, you will still be able to see your bookmarks on the new Daily Grommet site.

What are the rules for your special promotions, special offers, Promo Codes, contests and sweepstakes?

Each special promotion, special offer, Promo Code, contest and sweepstakes (“Promotion”) has its own specific set of rules, requirements and instructions. These rules and instructions will either be posted alongside the Promotion or you'll see a hyperlink that will take you directly to the applicable rules and instructions.

Did you save all of my account information when you switched to the new website?

When we launched Daily Grommet 3.0 (October 2010), we brought along the email address, User ID and password for all of our registered members. That means you can still log in with all the same information. We also saved your shipping addresses -- but for security purposes, we did not transfer your billing information or billing address. The first time you log into the new site, we suggest you visit your account (just click "My Account" at the top of any page) and update this information to set up your default billing and shipping addresses and preferences. You might have to enter your telephone number -- right now our Customer Support number is in there, just as a placeholder.

What is the Daily Grommet community?

What we share together at Daily Grommet is an interest in inventive and innovative products, a chance to chat about the Grommets, and to offer suggestions to the creators of the day’s Grommet through our daily discussion board in the “Talk about this Grommet” section to the left of each Grommet video. Having a chance to hear from and interact directly with people about their products is one of the main reasons Grommet creators like to have products on our site. Another thing our community loves to do is give us new ideas for Grommets. We depend on folks just like you for that.

What’s on the blog?

We want to be able to converse with you about more than just the day’s Grommet, so we talk about all kinds of things on our blog, and we’d love to hear from you there, too. Some of our favorite topics include design, finding, testing, reviewing, rejecting and loving products, seasonal stories and topics, discoveries of all type, and our personal stories at Daily Grommet. What are your guidelines for posting (on Daily Grommet’s site, Discussion Board, Facebook, Twitter)?

General rule of thumb - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Daily Grommet is not responsible for user-submitted content although we monitor these areas and we reserve the right to delete, revise or refuse any comments or contributions that we consider to be offensive, spam, or not relevant to the discussion. In making posts, we ask that our visitors:

  • not post personal information (addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
  • not post advertising (or thinly-veiled advertising)
  • not post fabricated reviews (good or bad) of products you have not experienced yourself
  • not post anything that is not suitable for a general population, including kids. No need to use foul language, or innuendo, there are plenty of other places for that.

We welcome posts sharing various viewpoints and ask that the conversation remains respectful of everyone's unique point of view. If a post is overly disrespectful, you risk having your post pulled and your point of view not represented.

Daily Grommet reserves the right to delete, revise or refuse any comments or contributions that we consider to be offensive, spam, or not relevant to the discussion. Daily Grommet is not responsible for user-submitted content although we intend to monitor this and remove contributions as noted above.

(Finally, as we write this answer we have to say what a genuine pleasure it is that we RARELY have to even worry about the above problems. We just don’t attract that kind of bad apple.)

Where is Daily Grommet located?

In a funky, sun-filled Victorian house that was converted to offices, on a little lane in Lexington, Massachusetts. Our address is 6 Wallis Court, Lexington, MA 02421.

What's your story?

Daily Grommet is an online marketplace and the birthplace of Citizen Commerce, a movement that gives people the information and tools to support products that align with their own values. It's a powerful new way to discover, share, and sell consumer products.

Our founders, Jules Pieri and Joanne Domeniconi, used to work together at Keds, many moons ago. Because they both recognized that there is an unprecedented supply of inventive products being created every day, all hitting the same brick wall when it comes to breaking through at retail, they decided to form a company that would fix that problem. Given that consumer products form 65% of the economy, this looked like a really worthy problem to solve.

Every day at 12 noon we launch one inventive consumer product or service and broadcast its story across the web. People all over the world give us suggestions for products. They tell us why they should be Grommets. We test and curate the best ideas, and then create a video review and word of mouth campaign for each product. When a product launches on Daily Grommet, we host a discussion board on our site where people can chat directly with the creator of the product and with us.

Where’d you come up with the name Daily Grommet – are you selling a bunch of metal rings?

Well, we could tell you a bunch of esoteric design stuff, but the bottom line is that our founder Jules Pieri is simply crazy about grommets. Yes, that piece of hardware. They signify attention to detail to her, but she especially loves them when they are used in unexpected places, like on stationery, or clothing. She even has a way-cool skirt with big grommets plastered all over the front.

Okay, there is a little more to it than that. We liked the idea of having a name that isn’t obvious (did we nail that one, or what?). It’s okay with us that not everyone knows what a grommet is (by the way, it’s the eyelet on a shoe, or the metal ring at the top of a nice shower curtain.) We like that it might take a little discovery, or that people might come up with their own meaning. Mostly, we were looking for a noun that would not place any limitations on the types of great products we can share with you. To us, "Grommet" captures what it means to take a little-known product and help people discover it by telling its true story. In other words, to make it a "Grommet."

When, why and how should I clear my browser's cache?

In order to speed up your web experience, browsers are designed to download web pages and store them on your computer's hard drive in an area called a cache. The cache contains a record of the items you have seen, heard, or downloaded from the web, including images, sounds, web pages, and so on.

When you visit the same page again, the browser loads it from your cache instead of downloading everything again—so you see the page faster. That’s the good news. The bad news? If a page has been updated, you will see the older version, or the page display can look odd. When the cache fills up, performance can slow down and your hard drive may run out of space.
