Hi Keith; I'm already a 'true believer' in merino wools. DH & I work and play year-round 'in the weather'. He's a shellfish farmer, which means night tides in winter, to boot. So for anyone reading who's wondering about the efficacy--here's an unsolicited endorsement for merino wool in general. Could we talk sizing and 'spring/give' of your garments? I'm atwitter at the idea of an underlayer in merino, but concerned about whether the pants would bunch and ride up or conversely, begin to gap and slide. Also wondering about how well they hold their shape and size over time and washings. How does the Ibex design manage these issues? Thanks for any info on this, Keith. And thanks, Grommet, for showcasing Ibex. I would never have thought to go looking for this product on my own. Cheers, Catherine

I'm a recent Ibex convert--now won't wear anything else but. I've found the underlayers hold their shape remarkably well and are so soft and comfortable. I ran a half-marathon in an Ibex wool bra and everything stayed where it was supposed to, plus I stayed cool and dry.

The woolies is a great first layer, and they are knit with a rib construction. What this means for you is that our base layer is going to be body tight, but not skin tight like a spandex piece. These base layers have been out in the market for about 6 years and been around the world, literally. Our fit is athletic, and is meant to move dynamically with you with minimal friction or gathering. And in regards to the product and how it holds up? We stand behind everything and will warranty the garment for any reason. So go ahead and give them a try, we guarantee them!

Hi Catherine, Thanks so much for sharing your experience with merino wool. I wonder if anyone can top the demands of shellfish farming in the winter at night! Glad we were able to introduce you to an idea for making this intrepid life you live a bit more comfortable.

Couldn't let this Grommet go by without a comment, I'm an IBEX addict! Been an active runner, hiker, skier for years and certainly use woolies for all of these, but unlike most active wear this wool is elegant and makes the transition to dinner out. The black woolie, never fades, never pills, retains its shape and can be rolled into a carry on and comes out without a wrinkle. If you like these try the Shaks, the vests, the sweaters, the gloves the hats.......

I'm a huge fan and agree with Jill. The Ibex line is such high quality -- truly an investment that you will get a ton of use out of and that you will treasure for years.

When I saw the headline, I thought, oh, no thanks. . . wool = itchy and hard to wash - but Ibex sounds wonderful! Thanks for the heads-up!
