Passion for Putty

Some people keep a jar of candy on their desks, others bring in homemade cookies to share with colleagues. And then there’s Aaron Muderick. He kept a giant stash of silicone putty under his desk and doled it out to coworkers. He bought the raw material in bulk and would carve off fistfuls of the stretchy stuff for his friends to knead, tear, roll and bounce when they needed to relieve stress and get their creative juices flowing.

Not content with plain old pink putty, Aaron started making vibrant colors and coming up with his own special additives — like hypercolors that change color when you warm the putty with your hands. When demand for his custom putty started catching on, Aaron walked away from his career as a software engineer to make putty in his mother’s basement. Sound a little crazy? Aaron’s coworkers thought so and dubbed him “crazy Aaron.” The name stuck, and Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty was born. Today it’s produced in a workshop outside of Philadelphia, where 90 people with special needs manufacture, package and ship the putty to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Thinking Putty comes in a slew of wild colors and flavors, including glow-in-the-dark putty, heat-sensitive putty and electric-colored putty. It can stretch like rubber and bounce like a ball, and because it’s silicone-based, it won’t dry out or crumble over time. It’s part toy, part stress reliever, part physical therapy and entirely addictive. Be prepared to never want to let it go!

• Crystal/Liquid Glass Thinking Putty is completely clear. Its consistency is a bit different than our other Thinking Putty; it is not as tacky/sticky as the other putty.
• Heat Sensitive Hypercolors change color at the touch of your hand. Colors include: Amethyst (purple/pink), Sunburst (orange/yellow), Chameleon (green/yellow) and Twilight (purple/blue).
• Glow in the Dark putty is milky white by day. After exposure to bright light, it will glow in the dark for several hours. Colors include: Amber (orange), Ion (icy blue), and Krypton (neon green).
