Talk about this Grommet
Hello!
We are Pat and Nadja, partners in PossibiliTree LLC. We're here to answer your questions about possibiliTree® wooden trees.

We hope that you can imagine this tree in your home. Without a doubt our trees are an excellent supplement to a traditional Christmas tree. We've used them at other times of the year, too. For instance, Pat has hung photos and special mementos in honor of her "birthday boy." Nadja has placed the tree in a "power spot" in her home and charged it with specific intention, feng shui style. Both of us like to display the tree all year round unadorned. Pat has a walnut "3-footer;" Nadja, a wild cherry. We are eager to discuss the possibilities of your tree with you. Talk with us!

What a wonderful idea! I love the sustainability and that it isn't holiday-specific. Looks like it's so easy to store and assemble, but I think I'd find a way to display it year-round. The story behind it makes it extra special!

Thank you Abby - you're right, it can be displayed year-round. We keep one up, unadorned, as a piece of art. We know folks who hang little eggs, rabbits, chicks and the like at Easter, as well as jack-o-lantern and ghost ornaments at Halloween. The sustainability factor is also important to us. The wild cherry version is made from a tree that fell in a lightening storm in northern Minnesota!

As I age (or evolve!) I am more likely to give/receive a donation to a charity in lieu of/in addition to a gift. This would be the perfect way to turn this practice into a tradition that is handed down to future generations. For each 'in lieu of a present' you add an ornament to the tree representing the charity who benefited from the donation. What an impact it would be to see through the years all who have been touched by our family's spirit of giving!

What a meaningful and creative idea, Katherine! And as my family can attest, these trees last many, many years; I can envision grandchildren inheriting a tree, along with a special collection of ornaments gathered along the way.

These are lovely, simple and elegant looking. I think my parents would like this for their house. The pine Christmas tree is getting a bit difficult for them to get and they are not artificial tree people. This seems like the perfect compromise. I think I might even decorate it with sprigs or garlands of pine (to get the pine smell in the house). One question, does the wood naturally darken with age?

Hi Linda - this could be a great solution for your parents, or anyone who is ready for something more convenient and manageable than a live tree, but who doesn't care for green plastic! We also see them as a great solution for folks in a nursing home or small apartment where space is an issue - even for college students in cramped dorm rooms!

Regarding the wood darkening with age, cherry does tend to change a bit over time, becoming more rich and warm as opposed to dark. The birch and walnut should not become darker. All three varieties should be protected from long periods in bright sunlight, as this is not good for the wood.

hi, these are cool. the base looks pretty substantial. how much does it weigh? how wide are they? would they be used as a centerpiece? i have a 5 ft diam round table. i like that people could see each other thru it. thanks

Hi MaryEllen,

Ya, I think the possibiliTrees makes superb centerpieces. The 2ft tree is 17" at its widest ande weighs 2 pounds and stands 24" high. The 3ft tree is 28" at its widest, weighs in at 3.2 pounds, and stands at 35" inches.

I would think both sizes may work for a 5 foot diameter round table, but the 2ft moreso if the table is in use for a dinner party--just because you could look over a 2-footer to the seated guest on the other side of the table as well as through the tree for a woodsy view of said seated guest.

If the table is in, say, a foyer and its main use is to call attention to a dramatic centerpiece, then I'd recommend the 3ft possibiliTree.

Thanks for writing.

We recently moved back to Minnesota after a 29 year absence and the idea of wrestling with another live tree in the cold temperatures does not thrill me. I am so excited to see such a beautiful alternative, the "FAKE" green trees have always looked ugly to me. I am definitely going to order this fabulous alternative!

Hi LaNor, Welcome back to Minnesota, the state that keeps its cool even in the summer (i.e. this past July). PossibiliTree's "world headquarters" are in Minnesota and we are well familiar with the arctic air blasts that can pay the atate a lengthy visit in the winter. No fun to be out hunting for an evergreen in that condition. Pat and I hope that your tree brings you a lifetime of pleasure and satisfaction. Thanks for your comments.

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoy our PossibiliTree. We found it at a gallery in St. Paul a few years ago and fell in love with its simple beauty. We bought the smaller tree in the walnut finish - perfect for our older home. Thanks for the wonderful addition to our holidays!

I'm so glad you are enjoying your tree, Jeanne! And you make a good point - even though the design of the tree is simple and modern, it can work in any style of home or decor. Thanks for writing!

You'd think living in the Pacific Northwest we'd have more than enough real evergreen trees. As soon as my husband saw this on the site, he knew I was going to buy it. When I told him I planned to use it to show off our Baccarat Christmas ornaments, which we have bought each year as commemoration for each of our holidays together, he was sold, too! I can't wait to see the little crystal beauties dangle from this indoor tree.
Leslie Grandy on Nov 10, 2009
Leslie - that sounds beautiful. If you think of it - would you send us a picture, we would LOVE to see that!
Katherine - Daily Grommet Team on Nov 10, 2009
I think this is a great idea for the family that might be heading off on a vacation on Christmas and does not want to leave a live tree in the house. We used to go away every Christmas morning to Detroit to visit that side of the family and I never liked coming home a week later to a dead tree. This would solve that problem.

I am sending along a picture by email. It turned out quite pretty, but I do want to give some feedback. I was disappointed in the stability of the tree, and found that the "branches" wobbled and were difficult to balance. This caused the crystal to slide off. My husband and I cut slits into small pieces of rubber that we slid on the center rod at the spacers, and it helped tighten the branches so I could display the ornaments as I wanted, with less concern about them tipping off a branch. Practically, the placemat that was included was really useful to cushion the fall until we figured out this solution.
Leslie Grandy on Dec 06, 2009
@Leslie, thank you so much for forwarding the picture and for the feedback on the Possibilitree.

Here are the pictures that Leslie forwarded. The first shows the tree - and yes that is a living Dove who has landed on the top! The second picture shows the rubber device that she used to stabilize the branches to be able to hold her crystal ornaments without tipping.

Hello Leslie,

Thank you so much for sending along the photo of your decorated tree-complete with a dove for a tree-topper! Gorgeous and breath-taking!

We are glad you wrote. Your feedback is relevant and goes to the process of decorating the tree as well as to the placement of ornaments on the branches.

About decorating the tree, we recommend that to keep branches from becoming lopsided, make sure each branch is balanced with ornaments that weigh about the same.

About placing the ornaments, to safeguard against an ornament slipping off of a branch, we recommend hanging heavier ornaments, such as your beautiful crystal, closer to the center of the tree rather than closer to the edge.

The branches do have a little wobble factor - it has to do with the design of the tree and the fact that the pieces disassemble rather than being rigidly fixed together. Nadja and I love the solution you and your husband came up with to stabilize your tree's branches.

We are also relieved that the placemat that came with the tree earned its keep by acting as a cushion to protect your crystals from the hard surface of a table.

Best wishes for a happy holiday season!

This comment was just left over on the Daily Grommet blog, and I thought it was so touching- I wanted to share it here. ____________________________ "I just wanted to comment on the PossibiliTree! I have sent the video to all of my family!! My daughter suffer from sever asthma. We couldn't figure out why she would always get sick at Christmas. We put our tree up on my moms birthday Dec 15 and by Christmas eve my daughter would be in the hospital. The Doctor didn't figure it out until she was 3. When he did I came home before Christmas and carried the tree out into the back yard. I then sat and tried to figure out what to have for a tree. The PossibiliTree is so close to our PVC piping tree we had back then ( my daughter will be 30 this year) It made me laugh with good memories!!! For the first 2 years every time my daughter saw a gardener with pipe she would ask why he was putting up a Christmas tree in summer. I take sever teasing about my tree but we loved it! The ornaments hung perfect because the spacing was perfect. When my daughter turned 12 we finally started changing to other non traditional trees we designed together, but our PVC tree was put up in the yard until she got married!! Thanks for the memories! And I may buy one for Christmas ask a reminder of old times!! love it!" -Audrey
