Talk about this Grommet
Hello everyone!
My name is Mary Tomer. I'm a Vogue reading, Style.com studying, Michelle Obama fashion enthusiast. In September 2008 I started a blog about Michelle Obama's style, Mrs-O.org, which has since turned into a book. As of today, it's official!
I'm excited that the Daily Grommet has decided to featured Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy at its launch. I'd love to tell you more about this book, as well as the process that went into making it. Look forward to chatting!

Welcome everyone,
My name is Anne Koplik, founder, and head designer of Anne Koplik Designs. For over 28 years, our designs have been combination of my innate sense of style along with a vast knowledge of glass jewels, crystals, and brass findings to create original works of art treasured year after year for their classic, heirloom quality.
We are very flattered to be associated with the book "Mrs O - The Face of Fashion Democracy” as Michelle Obama has also created her own classic, timeless style.
Thanks to Daily Grommet for this opportunity and looking forward to chatting with you!

If you are considering the brooches, be sure to click on the photo to enlarge it. I want you to see that the brooches are very finely crafted and can't be confused with cheap foreign-made costume jewelry. It is hard to see that in the tiny photos, and in our video.

Daily Grommet I'm always amazed when you make me interested in something I didn't realize I had any interest in! Mary - has Michelle Obama always had this natural sense of style or is it something that she developed more recently in response to her position as First Lady?

I guess I had a second question for either of you...is it best to choose an accessory that matches the colors you are wearing, or better to pick something that complements the colors you're wearing but is not necessarily a perfect color match.

My wife is a huge fan of Anne Koplik Jewelry and even follows them on Facebook! The jewelry is beautiful and very well made (I believe they are even HAND MADE!) Great choice of accessories for the book!

Hi Kate, I feel it is best to choose an accessory that matches the colors you are wearing. Such as our dragonfly brooch which can be worn with neutral clothing such as browns, creams and tan colors - these colors are all in the detail of our brooch. Thanks for the question.
Hi Ed, Thank you for the compliment and you are right all of our jewelry in hand crafted in addition we use only the finest materials, Made with CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements, semi-precious stones, antique glass beads, and exclusive hand enameling. We individually design, produce, and ship from our New York, USA studio. Anne Koplik Designs was also honored by Swarovski as one of the top designers using Swarovski crystals."
LOVE LOVE LOVE brooches. I wear them on everything! Coats, shirts, sweaters, skirts, belts, scarves, hats, purses, shoes (try wearing a different one on a simple shoe for evening).... I even hang them from my chandeliers and Christmas tree at the holidays! Tra la la la.... Love these brooches too. Looks like good quality.

Hi Kate, I think that Michelle Obama's style has evolved as she's stepped into public life. And as first lady, she has certainly turned to an increasingly diverse body of designers. I imagine Mrs. O has always had a certain style sensibility, but it had expanded and become more exciting over time. Best, Mary T.
Hi Kate, I will defer to Anne as the brooch expert! But a few things I've picked up from following the first lady's style... a trio of brooches at the neckline can be stunning and unexpected. The first lady has worn this style for the DNC and more recently in Copenhagen.
Dear Cooking Diva…Love, Love, Love your brooch enthusiasm. I agree there are many uses beside wearing them on a blazer. We take great pride in our exclusive designs and hand-crafted production. Happy brooch wearing!!!
I LOVE Art Deco! These are gorgeous. Thanks so much.

Hi Mary - your book looks gorgeous (and I'm a huge fan of Mrs. O!!). Have you ever had the opportunity to speak with her or do you think she follows what you write about her style? Would love to hear how you got started writing about her.

Hi Sara! I haven't had the opportunity to meet Mrs. O but would love to! I can't imagine she has time to follow Mrs-O.org, but I know others at the White House are aware and check it out on occasion. My inspiration for the site was in August 2008, while watching the DNC. I loved Michelle Obama's combination of strength and femininity, and her mix of high and low fashion.
Dear Lisa, Thank you! I am so happy you love art deco as much as we enjoying designing it.

Anne, I'm also a huge Deco fan. Who knew brooches would be so hot right now? Have also read a lot about Madeleine Albright's strategic use of brooches in diplomacy(like when Saddam Hussein called her an "unparalleled serpent", she decided to wear a snake brooch to her meeting with him). Love that moxie! And always love the unexpected accessory like these fabulous brooches.

Another thing to love about Michelle O -- she's a brooch devotee! I have a fairly extensive collection of vintage costume brooches that I've been neglecting -- I'll need to haul them out now!
I love the comments about broaches being trend-right as well as the idea to give a broach paired with the book for a gift this season. Excellent ideas ladies...now it's time to shop!

Brooches are a must have fashion accessory as discovered by the New York Times. Following is a link to their 12-13-09 feature on the emergence of the brooch as a fashion statement:
