Talk about this Grommet
Hello Grommeteers.
I'm Edward Wimmer (co-founder of Road ID) and will be observing from the sidelines today. So, if you have any questions or comments about Road ID, fire them my way and I'll do my best to answer.

If you don't already know who we are, you're probably asking yourself "What's the purpose of Road ID?" Good question. The purpose of a Road ID is to deliver quick identification and contact information in an emergency situation. In an accident, a Road ID may be the only thing that an athlete has to guarantee proper medical treatment and immediate contact of family members and friends. We like to say that "it's not just a piece of gear, it's peace of mind."

Hi all, This is an awesome product; I already have one for the shoe. Light, easy to use, don't know why I didn't get one sooner. Also, excellent customer service. Had a small glitch when I ordered mine and folks took care of it instantly. I ordered mine after reading an obituary in the local paper of a lovely young mom who had asthma and unexpectedly (of course) collapsed and died. She received help from a passerby but could speak after a few moments and her medical care was delayed. Never thought I needed one as a casual runner, but hearing about her tragedy turned me around. Edward, I know your company is sports focused, but have you ever considered making a youth item? I suppose I should 'try' and see if the small would fit a child's wrist but haven't gotten around to it. There's not much out there for kids that's as light and simple to wear. I and other moms have talked about field trips etc..when kids are in that in between age to give accurate information and also, of course, in emergencies when they can't give info. Any thoughts?

Love it! Maybe this is a good excuse for me to get back in shape! Having one of these attached to my car steering wheel sounds like a good idea to me, too. I see you have two lovely dogs in your photo. I'd love to see dog and cat collars similar to the Road ID which allow owners to customize the information and avoid the sound most pet tags make when attached to a collar. I used to buy great South African ones that made no noise, but I haven't been able to find any of those in America. The Road ID concept would allow pet owners to put even more information on the collar (additional contact info, medications, medical/disability information, etc).

Hello Christine. Thank you for your comments. We do, indeed, have a "kid's" product launching later this year. We're hopeful that it will be available by the end of November.

Julia, It make me smile to think that Road ID would be your excuse to lead a healthier lifestyle. Thanks. As for Pet IDs, we have some items in development right now. Check back around Feb 2010.

Hi There, My husband is an avid road cyclist and has had a road id for a year or so. Recently I got the call all of us dread. The ER was calling to say he had been ambulanced in off the California coast road with an assortment of injuries including several neck fractures. Thanks to the Road Id they were able to contact me. Shortly before the accident my husband had ordered my son a road id, purple by my son's choice. Hopefully I won't get a call about him, but if something does happen, they know who to call! P.S. My husband is recovering very well...just very tired of wearing a neck brace.

Carolyn - thank you for telling your story. We are so thankful that your husband is recovering! What a very scary experience.

I just started running a few months ago, and though I carry my driver's license on me for ID, I know that won't provide necessary information in an emergency situation. Just ordered my interactive ID and can't wait to start running with more peace of mind!

Do you have any plans to make the IDs Medical Alert IDs?

Carolyn, I'm thrilled to hear that your husband is recovering well. Please send him our best. Thankfully, he had his Road ID on. Nancy, you're going to love the peace of mind that wearing Road ID provides to you AND your family. Deb, our IDs already function as Medial Alert IDs. On either version of our IDs (Original or Interactive) we provide you the ability to list any necessary medical information.

@Julia I've been thinking about your noiseless pet ID idea. That is so smart. I've resorted to taping the tags on our two greyhounds' collars together. I did it initially because our neighbors have an aggressive dog who comes running when we are walking by "clinking". But it is just a smart idea, all around--that noise just gets old. Unless you have a very sneaky dog. Then you'd want all the tinkling.

Our elderly neighbor has Alzheimers and often wanders off (to the horror of his family because he gets lost). Sometimes he takes the car without his wallet and license and gets disoriented. Its very difficult for his family. I will pass this idea on to them. Thank you.

@Christine - using the RoadID as a wearable ID for those afflicted with Alzheimers is a very smart idea. Thank you for sharing this use with us and with your neighbor's family.
