Your Wildest Dining-with-Kids Experience?
Our newest Grommet contributor, Diana, had some great points today about how a playful set of utensils could soothe savage kids! What's your craziest dining-with-kids story? Did they ransack the salad bar? Pelt the wait staff with cherry tomatoes? Whether they're tales of wow, or woe, we can't wait to hear them!

My “craziest experience with the kids at the table” actually happened one day when our then 3 year-old was away from the table. When he began to walk, my wife implemented a hard and fast rule that he had to be seated at the table to eat; get up from the table and the meal was done. Worked fine except one day when we were at a Christening BBQ. When it started to rain, the grilling and serving operation was moved to the garage. When the food was ready, my wife handed our son a plate of food. Knowing the “you must be seated to eat” rule – and seeing no table and chairs nearby – my son immediately sat down in his pale blue gingham shorts directly on the garage floor! Sometimes those hard and fast rules can come back and bite you!

Hello everyone! I'm one of the owners of Constructive Eating and we're excited to have our product featured as today's Grommet. We have watched the Grommet since it launched and enjoy the daily presentations. We loved Owen's comments in today's Grommet about his children finding our utensils in his car. We had a similar experience where we made one set of prototypes of our utensils when we were initially starting our business. When we showed the prototypes to our three young children, our children began to quarrel over who would get to use them. We immediately realized that although we may be good product designers, we were probably bad parents for having tried to divide the one set into three sets of hands. :) I'll be checking in periodically today, so please feel free to ask any questions.

When our daughter was really little, 9 months or so, she refused to open her mouth for any type of spoon or fork, but would open up for a knife. It was completely bizarre but I'd feed her from a plastic knife ( to weird stares from those who observed us in restaurants:) Perhaps if she had these cute utensils she would be mesmerized enough to open her mouth!
