Talk about this Grommet
Fusion fun
Hi Daily Grommet fans. I'm thrilled to be here today to talk to you about the Shred Sled and answer your questions.

The Shred Sled is the first 4 wheel in-line next generation casterboard. It is a fusion of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding - all 3 action sports in one.

The Shred Sled 4-wheel, dual-deck carve board makes it smoother and easier to start carving up the streets. It's fun and much easier to control than older 2-wheel models. Shred Sled decks have a great grip surface to allow for better control and traction. My own son was frustrated trying the rip stick, but was up and riding the Shred Sled in minutes -- with a huge smile on his face!

It's also great for strengthening the legs and waist muscles. The SHRED SLED is a fun way to exercise and gives you a feeling of carving like snowboarding and skateboarding. Thanks for checking it out, and I look forward to your comments.

Eric, this looks like a lot of fun! Is there a weigh limit on how heavy a person can be to use it? Thank you!
Julia on Jul 02, 2009
Hi Jeanne! Nice moves on the Shred Sled! This looks like a great gift idea for my son, who is turning 8 yrs old this month. Just wondering if it is geared more towards the tweens and above age group. Is there a recommended age?

I'd like to see a picture of the wheels/underside. What material is it made of? @octopus

patricia, we do have a picture of the 4 wheels. i will see if they can be added. the wheels are 80 mm polyurethane - much better than the other 2 wheel casterboards on the market - the casters are aluminum and the board has abec 5 bearings. all the components have been greatly improved from the first versions out there.

tara, recommended age is 8 and above. i have 3 children - 9,10 and 12 and they all love it. i have seen people of all ages buy it, use it and enjoy it. eric

I've seen this Grommet in person and it is clearly of high quality construction. I was impressed with how the children in the video jumped on and were using it right away. Amazing. The two wheels vs. four must be the thing that make it so easy to adapt to.

des, you're right...the 4 in line wheels make it much more stable and smoother riding than the older 2 wheel models.

Okay! I need to know if Grandma's can do it too? It looks like the perfect gift for the older teen. Im excited about it.
Carolsandra Hay on Jul 02, 2009
Go Jeanne! I am very impressed with your ride. Do you ski, skate, snowboard or skateboard already? Or can anyone really just get on the Shred Sled and go like you did?
Laura on Jul 02, 2009
Thanks Laura - and Carolsandra, I'm not a Grandma, but my kids think I might as well be! That video captured my first ever time on the ShredSled (and no, I don't snowboard or surf - just ski, and this is a really different movement).

I've tried my kids' ripstick before and was never able to maneuver the way I did on this. It's such an amazing feeling - and the kids of course pick it up really easily. The testers in this video are 12, but I definitely think teens would have a blast with the ShredSled because of the flexibility and how much more you can do with it.
Jeanne on Jul 02, 2009
Those boys just hop on and go, that's amazing! Jeanne, you look good (and very brave I might add) on one too!

@octopus, There are 4-80mm polyurethane wheels and ABEC-5 Bearings on the Shred Sled. Here's a photo of the underside so you can get a better look at the wheels:

So, what's the bending thing the boys are doing in the video? It looks really cool and I'm trying to figure out how this works. My sons are really into their tricks and I want to show them this to see what other kinds of tricks they'll be able to do.

@Sam B. - The kids in the Daily Grommet video are showing how flexible the center rod is ... and this is a link to another video that was made just last week at windells camp in oregon. - it show a bunch of the tricks that can be done and it is really, really cool!
