Modern mommies don’t need to be convinced to wear their babies. In recent years, countless studies have underscored the benefits of this ancient and practical practice. The only question moms-to-be are asking is, “What’s the best way to wear them?”
I have a baby going on nine months now, and my answer is that what suits you and your baby best will change over time, and depends upon your situation. I have a collection of four carriers at home, and I never say no to a hand-me-down from a friend, or something new that catches my eye. I suppose I’m an advocate for assembling a baby wearing wardrobe. I’ve used all of them, and they’ve all stayed in rotation for different reasons. (And unlike strollers, they’re relatively inexpensive and take up very little space, so why not have more than one?)
Slings, like these ones from Polkadot Papoose, are especially great for walking around the neighborhood, running errands, and keeping your baby close—and your hands free—when you’re busy at home. I also think this particular line fills a special need. Founder Tara Harrup offers the most sophisticated and fashionable fabrics Team Grommet has seen in a baby sling collection (eye-catching prints, fresh patterns, and no typical baby colors in sight). Best of all, each handcrafted sling is reversible, so you get two stylish and coordinated color options with each purchase.
I think I’m about to expand my baby wearing wardrobe. How about you? Share your baby carrier secrets, and what you think of these beauties.
Note: A portion of each sale is donated to Project Rescue, a charity which fights human trafficking and child exploitation in urban centers around the world.
