Story

Ties for Guys Who Hate Ties

Dane PieriIt was Jules’ son Dane who brought Cyberoptix ties to our attention, and he assured us that their motto of “ties that don’t suck” was right on. Turns out, he’d uncovered a gem—Cyberoptix Tie Lab is run in Detroit by designer Bethany Shorb, and has evolved into one of the largest eco-friendly, solvent-free shops in the country. That’s good for the environment, but how about the ties?

Well, Bethany seems to have hit exactly the right note for those guys who’d rather be wearing a T-shirt, and who aren’t going to give up their style for a neck noose. The ties are quirky and a bit dark-humored, but above all, they’re art with a twist. Take the “terminal illness” design—it sports airport terminal diagrams… joined by flu virus molecules. If you’re in the know, you get the joke. If not, you just enjoy the pattern.

Each design is hand-screened onto 100% charmeuse silk or microfiber; for $10 more, your tie comes in a beautiful wooden box, ready for gift-giving. While the hip dad would love one of these for Father’s Day, I’m calling this one the winning no-brainer gift for graduation or congrats-on-your-first-job, too.
