Tropical Made Easy

When was the last time you bought a whole pineapple? True confession time here — I never have! When I’ve had a hankering for the fresh stuff, I’ve foolishly paid a premium to buy it prepared and sliced. Well, this year I’m saying enough of that.

Melissa SummersIt’s all thanks to Suburban Bliss blogger Melissa Summers who introduced Team Grommet to a clever gadget called Vacu Vin. As she tells it: “This tool takes the middle man out of our pineapple coring. It lets us buy a whole pineapple for half the price of the cored version, bring it home, quickly take out the good parts and leaves us with a handy tropical drink cup. The only downside I see is coring 10-40 pineapples this summer for a party. That’s a lot of pineapple. It’s a price I’m willing to let my husband pay.”

It’s so simple to use. You just slice off the top of your pineapple, insert the slicer and turn it like a cork screw. The shell is ready for drinks or display, and the fruit is ready for devouring. Considering that a Cancun vacation might be out of the question for a while, this gizmo can help give you that tropical feeling at home (and save some money in the process). Piña coladas, anyone?
