Daily Grommet and social media site kirtsy ran a contest to discover new grommets. And the winner is . . . Rum Sum Sum!
Three years ago, company founder and mom Anne Gearon moved from Australia to Chicago. Pushing a stroller through the city with a new camera in tow, Anne fell in love with the quirky type she saw everywhere. Trained as an industrial designer, Anne couldn’t help spotting an adorable “A” here and a tremendous “T” there. Slowly, she built an image bank of Chicago typography.
What to do with all of the lovely letters? Anne started by making a name collage for her son’s birthday. Her friends were wowed, and began requesting artwork of their own. In response, Anne started a company she calls Rum Sum Sum. The name refers to a silly nursery rhyme Anne sang to her children as infants.
Anne now designs all kinds of things with type — artwork, magnets, and even clothing. One hot item: adorable individualized birthday party Tee’s.
The beautiful thing is that each piece can be customized to fit your desires. We’d love to work with Anne on a memorial baby present (with the new arrival’s full name and date of birth), an outstanding housewarming gift (with a friend’s new address), or a wedding present (with the couple’s name and wedding date). You can choose the color scheme, so your rum sum sum original is sure to fit its surroundings. Want to say “Happy Birthday” in Spanish or “Welcome Home” in Tagalog? No problem. Rum Sum Sum speaks your language, colorfully. (Unless you prefer black and white, that is.)
