Clean water is essential, yet nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to it. More than 4,200 children die every day of water-related diseases. But there’s something you can do to stop it.
During World Water Week, UNICEF works with businesses and volunteers across the country to call attention to the global water crisis by participating in the Tap Project. The Tap Project started in New York City in 2007, where restaurants asked patrons to donate $1 or more for tap water they would normally drink for free. All funds raised supported UNICEF’s efforts to provide clean water to children around the world. The Tap Project has since grown from 300 New York City restaurants in 2007 to over 2,300 across the country in 2008.
In 2009, the Daily Grommet community helped support the Tap Project by purchasing this sleek, glass Tap Water Bottle. Designed specifically to support UNICEF, the company donated a portion of each sale to the Tap Project, and Daily Grommet matched that donation. And here’s an amazing fact: for every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days.
We will continue to find ways to support this important cause, and help UNICEF reach their goal of reducing the number of people without safe water by 2015.
